February 8-March 1, 2009. Oaklee's Guide is a primary media sponsor for the 2009 Chicagoland Kids Expo.
Working with Tower Show Productions, Oaklee’s Guide was the primary media sponsor for the 2009 Chicagoland Kids Expo. The show is held annually at the Schaumburg Renaissance Convention Center and draws approximately 12,000 families over the weekend. In addition to media coverage, Oaklee’s Guide provides an activity area that includes play areas sponsored by the Kohl Chidren’s Museum, DuPage Children’s Museum and Discovery Center Museum. The area also offers face painting, crafts, a rest area for parents and lots of entertainment.

Working with Tower Show Productions, Oaklee’s Guide will be the primary media sponsor for the 2008 Chicagoland Kids Expo on March 8-9, 2008. April 11, 2008. Oaklee’s Guide LLC Nominated for ATHENAPowerLink® 2008 Business of the Year Award.
The ATHENAPowerLink® program is a business mentoring program for women-owned businesses. Oaklee’s Guide was accepted as a recipient business and worked with a volunteer Advisory Panel in 2007 to focus was enhancing the strategic growth of the company. Their primary project was to oversee the development of a new, searchable website for Oaklee’s Guide. The winner of the award will be announced at the Fifth Annual ATHENA SHE reception on June 5, 2008.

May 1, 2008. Oaklee’s Guide launches new state-of-the-art website, www.oakleesguide.com.
OG has taken its successful print publication concept and parlayed it into a new website. The Guide, known for its extensive seasonal calendar of events and family-oriented businesses, is now offering access to that information in a searchable format. Users can search by town, date, type of event or business, and even appropriate age range to find events and businesses for their families.

May 19, 2008. Oaklee’s Guide is featured on WBBM moments.
David Weinstein, President of the Chicagoland Entrepreneurial Center, is featured in "Jumping off the Cliff: Insight for Entrepreneurs," a new WBBM Newsradio 780 AM segment that began airing in August 2005. Each week, David shares hard-won insights – in an honest and entertaining way -- to help the many entrepreneurial listeners who have made the jump off the cliff and started their own business. David will feature Oaklee’s Guide in one of his upcoming segments. The segments air on Wednesdays at 3:51 pm (with some weekend airings, as well).

November 6, 2008. Nancy Stevens, Owner, Oaklee's Guide, LLC chosen as one of the The Business Ledger's,
Top Twenty Influential Women in Business.

Nancy Stevens, a founding member and co-owner of Oaklee’s Guide LLC, was named as one of the most Influential Women in
Business in 2008. The award, presented by The Business Ledger in partnership with the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO), is given to suburban business women who share a commitment to professional excellence and to their communities. Nancy and other award recipients will be profiled in the Dec. 8 edition of The Business Ledger.

December 1, 2008. Local Business Women Named As Finalist for the Make Mine a Million $ Business™ Florida Event
– Business growth program, Make Mine A Million $ Business selected Oaklee’s Guide LLC of Buffalo Grove, Illinois, as one of the twenty five business women finalists to compete for an awards package at the Hollywood, Florida event on December 11, 2008 at the Westin Diplomat Hotel.  The exciting event will feature female entrepreneurs from across the nation who will compete for business development packages that include money, marketing, mentoring and technology assistance to help their businesses grow into million-dollar enterprises.   The event also includes educational and network opportunities in addition to keynote speeches by Count Me In Founder, Nell Merlino and Lucky Napkin’s Amelia Antonetti.

Described as a cross between “The Apprentice” and “American Idol,” the competition provides these twenty five finalists the opportunity to present their business in a 3 minute “elevator pitch” to a panel of business experts and a live audience.  Fifteen winners will be chosen by the audience and judges who collaborate on the selection process.  

Oaklee’s Guide LLC publishes a regional family activity guide that is “The Go-To Guide for On-The-Go Families™.” The complementary website offers a searchable database of activities, events, places and services. The company, owned by Nancy Stevens and Debora Mehlert, reaches more than 3 million families in the Chicagoland area.

Finalists will receive several of the key components of the Make Mine a Million $ Business awards package that will help their businesses break the million-dollar barrier, which includes inspiration, community, business coaching and mentoring from a “dream” team of coaches and business experts from Count Me In, and select discounts from national sponsors.

Launched in 2005 by Count Me In for Women’s Economic Independence and founding partner American Express OPEN, the Make Mine a Million $ Business program was created to help post-start up, women-owned businesses grow to one million dollars in annual revenue. Since its inception, the program has hosted 19 competitions in cities around the country and grown into a nationwide movement.  For the Florida event, more than 1,500 applications were submitted in hopes of securing one of the finalist spots.   

 “We thrilled by the eagerness of women across the country to grow their businesses, create jobs in their communities, and create stability for their families and the national economy,” said Nell Merlino, founder and president of Count Me In.  “The number of applicants mirrors the growth of our entrepreneurs’ businesses and their desire to take them to the million dollar level.”

The Make Mine a Million $ Business program has garnered support from organizations who are all joining hands in order to make an impact in women’s lives and strengthening the US economy. The impressive list of blue-chip national sponsors include American Express OPEN, AIG, Cisco, FedEx, Jet Blue, and Dell. Sponsors provide an array of products and services that serve as invaluable tools for growth.
