July is Parks & Recreation Month

Are you taking advantage of your local park district? Illinois is blessed with a tremendous resource in our parks and recreation departments. They provide multiple opportunities to explore new activities, have family outings and stay healthy. In recognition of how the parks and recreation departments positively impact the health and wellness of their communities, Gov. Bruce Rauner proclaimed July 2016 as Parks and Recreation Month.

Get to know your park district, and those in the neighboring towns. Most of them offer lots of green spaces as well as facilities for swimming, golfing, parties, classes, and outings. They also host farmers markets, outdoor concerts and movies. Many activities are free or don’t require advance registration, making them easy to enjoy even at the last minute.
